Merriam-Webster defines "nourish" this way.....to nurture, promote the growth of, or to sustain. For women, this comes intuitively when we are caring for those we love. But when it comes to ourselves, we often fall short, waaaay short. Intellectually, we know we need to care for ourselves and we have good intentions, honestly we do! But, in the chaos of day to day life with jobs, homes and children, caring for ourselves gets pushed down the list. Tomorrow turns into this weekend, this weekend turns into next week, next week turns into next month, next month into next year....you get the drift?
I get it, I truly do. Do you feel like you:
are torn between your career and other obligations while also taking care of you?
struggle creating healthy boundaries?
go from activity to activity with no time for yourself?
are constantly feeling guilty for "not doing enough" for your family?
are overly tired, stressed, or anxious?
are constantly putting off your hopes and dreams to tend to the daily demands?
Do you believe you were meant to live this way? I don't. But to be honest, I DID...for more years than I would want to admit, and my health crashed in late 2014 as a result (I'll share more about my journey to recovery soon, but a big hint is that it led me here!)
Balance in your life isn't unattainable, nor is it selfish. This isn't about pampering yourself, it's about nourishing yourself by taking care of your physical, emotional and spiritual health. It's about priorities, creating margin, and slowing your pace so you can breathe. And at it's core, it's about your own self-worth.
